Sunrise Sailing

I love this double z fold card, that was taught to me by Irene Wardlaw at our annual stamp camp earlier this year.

One of the great techniques is the use of the two tone paper. This paper has a white core, which once embossed can be sanded to bring out the textures even more, by revealing the white core.

The birch wood embossing folder was perfect to make waves for this card. Who would have thought a wood grain type of embossing folder would make such effective waves and clouds?

The stamps and dies used are from the Sunrise Sailing bundle. The sailboat dies reminded me of a punch I had a few years ago. The middle Sunrise Sailing die is very similar in size to my old punch. The retired punch is on the left with Basic Beige sails. The current die is on the right with white sails.

Another great thing about this card, is that it can be folded flat for posting.

Friendly Fins Wiper Card

This was a fun fold to do. My grandkids loved it.

It uses the Friendly Fins bundle, which has many fish images including some I haven’t used like a happy stingray. I also stamped the back of the card.

When you hold the card at the front and pull the sides, a wiper arm pops up to reveal a jumping dolphin!

Sketched Butterflies

Here’s a recent card that I taught in my classes which is taken from a sketch challenge.

The challenge is to take an idea or sample from the Stampin’ Up! catalogue and use it as inspiration for your card. Here is the idea…

If you visit CASE-ing Tuesday Sketches you will be able to see more and take part in the current challenges.

My finished card was inspired from one made by Jolanda Johnstone. If you visit the CASE-ing Tuesday Sketches you will see her card and find that I have changed mine up quite a bit from her original design. I kept the sponging elements, on the background and butterflies as I thought the casual colouring of the sponging worked well with the sketched look of these stamps. I wouldn’t want to colour these butterflies too precisely and lose that casual sketched look.

I decided to do something different for the inside of my card and I made a simple pop up card.

This is done on a insert card which is slightly smaller than the base card. I folded my insert card in half and made a pencil mark 4 cm mark on either side of the fold line at the top and another 4.5 cm down on the fold line. Then I scored down both sides to make the angled pop out piece. I added some butterflies to the left hand side. When the card is open the butterflies pop up but they fold back down when the card is closed.

Charming Duck Pond

Here’s a cute fancy fold card for you today. I don’t know the name of this fold, so if you know, please tell me.

The circle with the duck on, acts as a lock to the card. The pink side paneI bends back to open the card.

I have created a step by step video that shows you how to make it.

Window card with pop up inside.

I have combined two different fancy fold designs to make this window card with a pop up panel inside.

It uses the Mediterranean Blooms designer series paper, stylish shapes dies, and the Adventurous sky stamps.

It’s not hard to make and I have a recorded a video to show you how.

If you enjoy watching this video, please check out my other cardmaking video and tips too.

Thank you.

Citrus Blooms

I was teaching some classes this week using the Citrus Blooms bundle. Such pretty paper makes both cardmaking and scrapbooking easy. I used some left over bits to make this joy fold card. The Night of Navy card base is 29.6 cm x 10.5 cm and is scored at 7.5 cm and 14.9 cm.

The front has lemons which are fussy cut. I had some extra lemons at the edge of my paper so I added a third to the bunch I had already cut out. I mounted them on dimensionals and adhered them to a piece of white card. The white card measures 10.5 x 7 cm and is embossed with the distressed tile embossing folder. I stamped the word hello before I embossed the card.

The white insert piece that reads, “Just checking in”, measures the same as the front navy piece with the lemons on. (12 x 8.5 cm). I matted my front navy piece with silver card as I wanted to match the striped piece of retired DSP that I used inside. I can’t remember the name of the DSP, it was in a Christmas pack about 5 years ago.

Let’s go Fishing Card

This is called a Joyfold card. It was one made for a recent class. We used Let’s go Fishing designer series paper (DSP).

The paper has great fish images which we fussy cut out to use as our focal point. We placed them on a dry embossed background made by swiping the embossing folder with Boho blue ink before rolling it through the Stamp and Cut Emboss machine.

This is a great technique to use with embossing folders as it really highlights the textures.

The joyfold card is tucked under the sentiment circle at the left hand side to close. When it opens you have plenty of space to write inside.

Simple Shaker Card

This fun card features the new “Lighting the Way” bundle and “Enjoy the Journey” designer series paper, DSP.

Instead of using foam tape and creating a window to be a feature for the shaker pieces, you use a clear envelope, (cellophane bag). You insert both the decorative dsp (my one measured 14.4 x 10 cm) and sequins into this clear envelope and then attach this to the card front with tear n tape. Then add any extra embellishments on top of the clear envelope. I added my sentiment and lantern on last. But the die cut bees are glued to the DSP and are inside the clear envelope.

Use a few of the same stamps that were used on the DSP to decorate inside your card as well.

Ladybug Tunnel Card

I used Hello Ladybug bundle to create this fun card. The DSP on the front is from the Pattern Party hostess set and it is sponged with Granny Apple Green ink to make a softer background. The black and white was just too stark. The small curvy label from the Ornate Frames dies was perfect for the “It’s a good day” greeting.

Inside the card is a fun fold called a tunnel fold. It is really easy to do. I stamped in the centre of my A5 size card first, then scored and folded it. My DSP measured 14.9 x 10 cm. I scored in half at 5 cm and then again 1 cm in from each edge. I used a circle die to cut a circle from the centre of the DSP and folded it along the score lines. The centre line is a mountain fold the two outside 1 cm score lines are valley folds.

To attach, add adhesive to the outside 1 cm folded tabs only and adhere flat to inside of card, making sure that the centre fold of base card and centre fold of DSP line up perfectly.

I then added a strip of 14.9 x 6.5 cm piece of white card either side of DSP to secure the attached edges and make it look neater.

Hydrangea Haven Flower Box Card

I made this card recently for a team challenge where we had to have a go at making a pop up flower box card. I was pretty happy with how it turned out.

The card folds flat for posting.

Here is a close up of the Hydrangea on the card front. I love the matching dies which add so much detail and allow the petals to lift up for a 3 D effect. I added a drop of shimmery crystal effects in each flower centre.
