Dahlia Fold Card

I have seen these Dahlia fold cards around for awhile now but haven’t made one until today. I thought I would teach it at a class, because origami is fun and this card was just a little bit different.

The paper we used is about to retire. It is called Delightfully Eclectic and is currently half price. The stamp set is from the Charming Sentiments stamp set.

To make the Dahlia, you need to punch 8 circles from the patterned paper and one circle from coloured card. I used a 2″ circle punch. You can see the steps on the photo below.

Step 1. Fold circle in half and in half again. For me it was helpful to draw in fold lines with a pencil as it made them easier to see.. Step 2. Fold in bottom edges, so folded piece is sitting neatly between pencil marks. Step 3. Turn circle over. Now fold in side so it is even with the centre fold. Step 4. Repeat on opposite side. Rub out pencil marks.

You now have 8 Petal pieces. You will adhere these to a card circle. Then adhere onto your card.

Fresh as a Daisy

This was a fun card to make. It has a detachable bookmark with it. To make the bookmark, I cut my base card to 14.9 x 26 cm. I used the Take Your Pick tool attachment with the perforating wheel to rule 5 cm off the side. I folded the perforated panel in and folded the card in half. I used the Fresh as a Daisy designer series paper to decorate the front. The sending word and birthday wishes are from the Sending Smiles bundle.

Do you like the white embossed border on the front? It is Vellum. It makes a great border as it is a much softer look than it would have been had I used white cardstock. With such a bust front to this card, I felt it needed something more subtle in the background and the vellum worked perfectly.

Inside the card, you can see the bookmark, folded inwards. It is decorated with another piece of DSP from the “Fresh As A Daisy” paper pack.

Here is the inside of the card with the bookmark folded out. You will see the perforations that you can tear or cut along to remove the bookmark from the card.

Beautiful Balloons

This was a pretty easy card to make with the Beautiful Balloons bundle.

First I stamped some banners across the top of my DSP (Designer series paper) and heat embossed with white embossing powder.

Then I sponged over a bit more colour using Highland Heather, Bubble Bath Lemon Lolly and Lemon Lime Twist inks. I only blended the colour on lightly so you could still see the pattern show through but it took away the stark white and it showed up the banners better.

Then I added the balloons and the greeting. I hand drew in the balloon string with a ruler and Stampin’ Write marker.

Finally I added some little stars cut with holographic paper.

Let’s go Fishing Card

This is called a Joyfold card. It was one made for a recent class. We used Let’s go Fishing designer series paper (DSP).

The paper has great fish images which we fussy cut out to use as our focal point. We placed them on a dry embossed background made by swiping the embossing folder with Boho blue ink before rolling it through the Stamp and Cut Emboss machine.

This is a great technique to use with embossing folders as it really highlights the textures.

The joyfold card is tucked under the sentiment circle at the left hand side to close. When it opens you have plenty of space to write inside.

Angled Gatefold Card

I made this cute gatefold using some of the new Incolours and the Fresh as a Daisy designer series paper (DSP).

I didn’t have the coordinating Cheerful Daisy dies so I used a retired Daisy punch instead as the focal piece on my belly band. I used in colour glossy dots embellishments and emulated the look on the centre of my daisy flower, using Wink of Stella and Fine Tip Glue.

Inside the card, I used the flowers from the Hello Ladybug stamp set and Bubble Bath ink. They worked beautifully. The sentiment is from the Layering Leaves stamp set.

Ringed with nature card

All the layers and textures on this card combine to give it a deep richness.

I used Early Espresso as my card base, then matted it on Petal Pink card 14.4 x 10 cm. I next added a 13.9 x 9.5 cm layer of Pecan Pie which I embossed with the timeworn type embossing folder.

Now it was time to decorate… I added distressed gold card diecut leaves. A few stamped leaves and stamped tree rings, and some diecut acorns. One of the tree rings, I mounted on a foam adhesive sheet and coloured the white foam with a blend pen so it gives the appearance of a wooden shape. I also used the small ball embossing tip on my Take your Pick tool to draw in deep grooves in between the stamped ring lines. This all added more texture. I sponged the edges of my tree rings with Crumb Cake ink.

I stamped my sentiment on Ribbon using Black Staz on ink. I think the Saddle brown Staz on would have worked even better. The ribbon looked lost on the brown background so I mounted it on to a piece of Very Vanilla card.

You may notice the burlap ribbon (this comes in a combo pack with real red), frays on the edges. In my sample, I used a thin smear of tombow glue to seal the edges but it did stain the ribbon, so when I taught this in class, I held a flame by the edges of the ribbon and this melted and sealed of the ends nicely.

I used 2.5 cm strips of Earthen Elegance DSP to give a rich background for the tree rings and foliage. It came together well and would be suitable for a male or female birthday or thank you, or a sympathy card if you changed out the words.

Dainty Flowers Sale-a-bration Paper

I made this sympathy card using the free (with qualifying order) Dainty Flowers DSP and the matching dies from the January to April mini catalogue.

The dies are delicate and can be a little fiddly to put together but it is worth it. I die cut a lilac flower and a couple of yellow daisies to complement the flowers on the DSP. I added a bit of ink with a sponge dauber so they matched the ones on the paper. The lovely blue background is paper from the same pack.

He’s the man – Scrapbooking page

I used the wonderful DSP pack called “He’s the man”, to make this 12 x 12 layout. It uses showcases all the papers from the pack.

I started by stamping and daubering the edges of a 27 x 27 cm piece of Sahara Sand card. I then embossed some smaller pieces of Sahara Sand card with the Brick and Mortar 3D embossing folder and tore the edges of each piece. I daubered the raised areas and the torn edges using Sahara Sand, Cajun Craze and Early Espresso inks. I joined the two embossed pieces together and covered the join with a folded circle shape. I made several more of these shapes to scatter on my layout.

I finished with a tailored tag journal box and some die cut pieces from the “He’s the man” pack. There are die cut pieces for all interests from cars to camping and handyman to hero. I thought this die-cut featuring the beer glass was just perfect for my layout.

My customers usually only make a single 12 x 12 page in class but they often ask me how to do a double page layout. This is a mock up I did as a suggestion for them. Nothing was glued down.

This double page spread had an Early Espresso base instead of Cajun Craze.

I was impressed that my group of ladies all wanted different die-cuts to complete their own pages. There were many different variations to choose from so there was no fighting. Lol.

Here is another example of the layout. This page was made by Wendy Foley. She also used the retired Playful Alphabet dies.

Brighten someone’s day with a card

This is our class project this week. I am still trying to decide whether to use a Basic Black card base or Misty Moonlight. Leave a comment with which one you prefer.

I just love this stamp set, Hand-Penned Petals. It is so easy to colour the flowers in as it is a two step stampin set but not one that you have to line up perfectly. It is meant to give a watercolor look, with a swipe of colour on the flowers and leaves. Colours I used were Memento black, Granny Apple Green, Crushed Curry and Misty Moonlight. I used Pumpkin Pie and Poppy Parade markers to colour in the flower centres. The pretty paper is a hostess reward paper and is called Pattern Party.

The paper is embossed with a matching embossing folder which makes the flowers stand out even more. The embossing folder is called Pretty Flowers.

The greeting on this card is from the Dragonfly Garden stamp set. The embellishments are from the Expressions in ink ephemera pack and the twine is from the playful pets ribbon combo.

The inside of the card deliberately has no sentiment, so that you could use this card for a variety of purposes.
